It was a stressful week trying to get a game organized. It rained all week and was forecasted for both Saturday and Sunday. We decided on Sunday as their was more interest and a bit of sun was forecasted on Saturday, hoping to help dry the field. Mike held out until midnight Saturday, requiring at least 16 reliable confirmations. Wilson and John B flaked on Saturday, but Bruce found another friend to bring us to 16. Mike made it 17, but was skeptical about all the guests showing up.

CC arrived to the field first to find it soggy and scattered with puddles. Bruce's friend, Armon, showed up shortly after, followed by Bruce and his two other friends, Matt and Sam. They all worked on the field while others started showing up and began warming up. Only CC brought shovels and a bucket to transport dirt.

Thomas arrived, but disappointed with the conditions, left immediately. Fernando was the last to arrive, and just as Mike had worried, his two guests (Newton and Brian) flaked. Hozai brought his brother Fidel to bring us to 15.

Bruce and CC captained. Since CC felt he was a far inferior player to Bruce, he asked to have first pick, to which Bruce agreed. Bruce's friend Matt had to catch a 4pm bus to Philadelphia, so him and Bruce had to leave by 2:45. It was agreed the game would end by that time since we would be down to 13 players. We ended up playing 6 innings.

The bottom of the 6th was mired in controversy. Down by two with one out, Hozai hit a grounder nearly straight up the middle. Davy stepped on second for the force out, but incoming runner Bruce did not slide and was believed to have made contact with Davy. It was thought that by not sliding and making contact with the fielder, that both runner and batter would be out (per the McRae Rule), which would have ended the game.

However, further research revealed that Bruce did not commit interference since he did not leave the baseline. Per the new "Chase Utley/Ruben Tejada Rule" (6.01)(j): interference shall not be called where a runner's contact with the fielder was caused by the fielder being positioned in (or moving into) the runner's legal pathway to the base.

For once, the infield fly rule was correctly not called. A pop up on the infield got lost in the sun and landed just shy of the grass with no one remotely close. CC had clarified the rule earlier in the week that an infield fly should only be called once a fielder takes charge. In this case, however, it seems everyone simply forgot it was an infield fly situation.

CC remains winless as captain against anyone but Roger.

Fernando brought a radar gun. Mike consistently pitched at 50-51 mph with his fast pelota at 59. Kareem threw 67 fast pelota and consistently threw at 54-57 mph. 

The first ever game on Mother's Day (only the 10th ever Sunday game).
